S1: Im attending the Russian Winter Festival in my
town. Right now a band is playing in the town
square. A man dressed as Father Frost is play
ing with the children. Im at the Food Bazaar
right now and Im eating pancakes with honey
and jam!
T: Can you think of a special day in your coun
try?
S2: Shrove Sunday.
T: How do you celebrate it?
S3: In the morning, we make a female figure out
of straw and dress it up in old clothes. We call
it Maslenitsa. Later in the day, we carry it
around the village on a sledge. We also dress
up and we sing and dance. In the evening, we
light a huge bonfire and burn it.
