Lynn: Hey, Dave! What are you doing in this
neighbourhood?
Dave: Hi, Lynn! I am looking for the post office.
Do you know where it is?
Lynn: Yes. It’s right next to the bank, the one
opposite the newsagent’s. Sarah’s in there right
now!
Dave: Sorry…. Is the post office opposite the
newsagent’s?
Lynn: No, no. The newsagent’s is opposite the
bank, and the post office is opposite the super
market.
Dave: Oh, I see…. You mean the supermarket in
front of the bus station?
Lynn: Exactly!
Dave: And what about the library? I’m meeting
John there in half an hour.
Lynn: Oh… the library! It’s the building behind the
chemist’s.
Dave: And what’s that small place opposite the
chemist’s, next to the post office?
Lynn: That’s the coffee shop! Why don’t we have
a coffee before you meet John?
Dave: That’s a great idea!
Module 3. Getting around
Unit 3a, ex. 8 (p. 27)
(sound of cars, beeping, noisy street)
Paula: David, stop! What are you doing?
David: What’s wrong?
Paula: Be careful! We are not in the school play
ground anymore! This is a very busy street!
David: Oh, don’t tell me you are afraid of the traf
fic.
Paula: Of course, I am. Let’s cross from the zebra
crossing over there!
David: Over there? We can’t walk that far! Come
on, let’s walk between the bus and this parked
car in front of us.
Paula: This is dangerous. You can’t see the road
clearly.
David: Come on, it’s easy! Run as fast as you can
to the other side!
Paula: David, wait! First look both ways for…
(sound of car brakes)
Paula: Oh my goodness! David, are you OK? (the
driver steps out of the car)
Woman: This is very dangerous, young boy! Don’t
you know anything about road saf... DAVID????
David: MUM???

cross between parked cars! That’s it! You are not
allowed to watch TV for a week!
David: Oh no!
Module 4. Day after day

Quizmaster: Good evening everybody and wel

warm welcome to David, Anna, Kevin and Deirdre.
Fingers on the buzzers, here’s the first question.
Who does Harry Potter live with?
Anna: I know, it’s the Dursley Family.
Quizmaster: Correct, that’s one point for you,
Anna. Next question. Which school does Harry
go to?
David: Ahm, is it Azkaban?
Quizmaster: I’m afraid not, David. Anybody else?
Anna: It’s Hogwarts.
Quizmaster: That’s right. Another point for Anna.
Where does Harry usually have breakfast?
Kevin: I’m sure it’s the Great Hall.
Quizmaster: You’re right. One point to you. On to
the next question. Harry studies herbology at the
greenhouse how many times a week?
Deirdre: Twice a week.
Quizmaster: You’re right, Deirdre, and you get
your first point. Let’s take a quick look at the
scoreboard. Anna has two points, Kevin and
Deirdre have a point each, but David has no
points. Come on, David! Next question. When
does Harry study the night skies?
David: I know this one. Every Wednesday at mid
night.
Quizmaster: Well done, David. You’re right and
you’ve got your first point. On to the next ques
tion. What does Harry often play in his free time?
David: He plays hide and seek.
Quizmaster: I’m afraid you’re wrong again, David.
Anybody else?
Deirdre: He plays quid ditch of course.
Quizmaster: You’re right again and another point
to you. Moving on. What do Harry and his friends
usually do after dinner?
Anna: They meet in the common room, don’t
they?
Quizmaster: They do and you’ve now got three
points and you’re in the lead again. And now to

Harry always sleep?
Kevin: In his house dormitory.
