Text 3. My working day

My working day

My working day usually starts early in the morning at about 6.30. To stay in bed an extra quarter of an hour always seems a very good idea to me but I get up and make my way to the bathroom. I wash my hands and face, brush my teeth and comb my hair. I press my uniform and clean my shoes. Well, now I look spic-and-span and ready for my breakfast. My mum usually cooks it. She always prepares lovely meals. There are usually some nice thick sandwiches and white coffee or some porridge and tea or some toast, butter, jam and juice for breakfast. I give my mother a hand with washing up and wiping. I leave for the University at 8 o'clock. I've got to be there at 8.30 sharp. We line up at this time. It's sometimes a problem to get on the bus in the morning, but I manage somehow. It usually takes me 20 minutes to get to the University. At 9 a.m. our classes begin and they last till just after 2 p.m. We have short breaks in between them. I try to take some notes at the lectures. I hope to profit from my various courses of studies. I work hard at physics in particularas I find it quite a difficult subject. When our classes are over, we are off to the messroom. I don't mind having a meal at the University, though I prefer home-made dinners. As a rule we have some soup and fried fish or meat with vegetables. Then we line up again. After that I usually go to the reading-room to prepare for some seminars and then to the gym. You see, I stay at the University for quite a long time. At home I look through my summaries and watch TV for a while. I usually have my supper at 7. In the evenings I like going out to enjoy a stroll around the town, meeting friends, and perhaps having coffee together. When I come back, I often stay up late reading or learning. I retire to bed near midnight. seem make one's way comb [koum] () press spic-and-span " " prepare [prı΄peə] porridge [΄porıd] toast [toust] juice [du:s] wiping [΄waıpıη] sharp , line up manage last [la:st] profit [΄profıt] various [΄veərıəs] in particular[pə΄tıkjulə] mind soup [su:p] fried [fraıd] quite [kwaıt] look through [θru:] summary [΄sLmərı] go out stroll [stroul] perhaps retire [rı΄taıə]
