Ex. 9.1. Read these Russian phrases and then match the parts of the word combinations belowto get their English equivalents:

1. What busy airports are located in the Moscow area?	1. There are four: Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo-1 and Sheremetyevo-2. The heaviest concentration of air traffic is at Sheremetyevo-2, located 28 kilometres north-west of Moscow. It is an international airport, the air gates to Moscow and the Russian Federation.
2. What does the airport building look?	2. It is made of concrete, steel and glass. The characteristic feature of the Sheremetyevo Airport is the Boarding Pavilion built in the shape of a huge mushroom.
3. Where does the passenger flow go?	3. To the Arrival Hall for incoming passengers and the Departure Hall for outgoing passengers, both on the ground floor. There is also the VIP Hall for businessmen, public and political figures.
4. What other facilities are there at the airport?	4. There are Check-in desks of different airlines, Transfer and Transit Passenger Services, Information Desks, Left Luggage Counter, Lost Property Office, Medical Services, even a conference room.
5. Where can you get the baggage?	5. The checked baggage is delivered on presentation of your baggage check and tag at the "Delivery of Baggage" counter.
6. Can you exchange the money at the airport?	6. Yes. There’s a bank and Currency Exchange Offices.
7. What about having a meal or a bite?	7. There is a fine restaurant, noted for its Russian cuisine andservice. And of course there are snack and cocktail bars at passengers’ disposal.
8. Who deals with the traffic of incoming passengers?	8. Border Guards and Officers of the Baggage Crew. Incoming passengers must go through the Health, Passport and Customs Control. So they must have an entry visa, a foreign passport, a vaccination certificate and hand luggage ready for inspection. They should also fill in a Customs declaration.
9. What crew carries out check and control of passengers’ luggage?	9. Customs officers of the Baggage Crew must carry out check and control of both incoming and outgoing passenger’s baggage.
10. What are the functions of the Customs Baggage Crew?	10. The Customs Baggage Crew has to investigate the whole range of specifically Customs matters: tax and excise cases when passengers exceed the duty free allowances; the bringing in and taking out of prohibited or restricted goods, smuggling, drugs and other cases like that.
11. In what case is an article liable to forfeiture?	11. If an article was not declared or produced for Customs inspection it is confiscated.
12. What else should incoming passengers know?	12. They should know the difference between Moscow Time and GMT. It's three hours. For example, if one arrives in Moscow from London or Paris he should set the watch three hours forward.

Ex. 9.3. Translate the sentences below into English:

Работникам отдела багажа приходится неоднократно рассматривать чисто таможенные вопросы: случаи, связанные с уплатой налогов и акцизных сборов, когда пассажиры превышают норму беспошлинного провоза товаров, случаи ввоза или вывоза товаров, запрещенных или ограниченных к ввозу и вывозу за границу, случаи провоза контрабандных товаров или наркотиков и тому подобные.

10. Любая вещь, не заявленная или не предъявленная для досмотра, подлежит конфискации.

Ex. 9.4. Read the conversation at the check-in-counter between an agent, a Customs officer and Mrs Andrews (С., Т. и М.Э. vs A., CO. and M.A.). Cover the Russian variant with a sheet of paper and translate the English one into Russian. Then cover the English variant and translate the Russian one into English. Open the other variant of the text, line by line, to check yourself:
