3. VGIK is the oldest Film School in the world. It (start) on 1, September, 1919 as a film acting school. Four years later the school (open) a photography department and since then it (grow) into one of the biggest film schools. VGIK (add) the name Gerasimov in 1986, a year after the famous director and actor (die). Many outstanding filmmakers (teach) here, including S. Eisenstein, L. Kuleshov, V. Pudovkin, M. Romm, to name just a few.

VGIK (change) a lot over its history. To begin with, the school (occupy) just two rooms in the center of Moscow. Since 1934 it (be) housed in the Gorky Film Studios building and it (move) to its present location in the 50-s. A small acting school (become) a university. Spacious buildings (replace) tiny rooms.
