The Text

The Guinness Book of Records contains many interesting facts, for example:

Money:

The smallest coins were the Nepalese ¼ dam. Called a Jawa. They were made of silver in about 1740. They weighed about 0.008 g. The heaviest coin was a Swedish 10 daler in 1664. It weighed 19,710 kg.

Typing:

The person who typed for the longest time on an electric typewriter was Gisela Martin of Elgerhausen, Germany. She typed for 216 hrs from 19th to 28 July 1980. Mike Howell, a blind office worker from Manchester, holds the record for typing on a manual typewriter. He typed for 120 hours 15 mins from 25th to 30th November 1969 in Liverpool.

The fastest typists are Margaret Owen from the USA, who typed 170 wpm in one minute on 21st October 1918, and Albert Tangora, also from the USA, who typed at 147 wpm for an hour on 22nd of October 1923. The speeds were on manual typewriters.

Working Week

Young doctors probably have the longest working week. Sometimes they work 139 hours per week which gives them 4 hrs 8½ min sleep per night. The shortest working week is probably three hours. Some university lecturers have a working week of three hours which they work for only 24 weeks per year so they work a 72-hour year.
