C Listen again and read the presentation.

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming. My name is Sarah James, and Im here to give a brief presentation on the company. My talk is very short, so please, keep your questions for the end.

The first part of my presentation is about the company structure of Pizza Hut (UK). The second part looks at the present activity of the company in the UK, and in the last part I want to talk about our future plans. First, the structure. Lets start with the parent company*. As you know, Pizza hut (UK) is a subsidiary of Tricon Global Restaurants. There are other brands in the group, such as KFC and Taco Bell. The President of Pizza Hut (UK) is Jon Prinsell.

Now, lets look at our present activity. Business is very good. People in Britain like pizza! We have sales of over £300 million from 400 outlets **. We employ about 16,000 people. In Britain our brand is very well-known. 80% of the population eat at Pizza Hut at least once a year. On top of that, we deliver 75,000,000 pizzas to peoples homes. Pizzas are our main product, but we also sell a lot of pasta, salads, desserts, and drinks.

Finally, the future. In the next ten years we plan to open at least another hundred restaurants. At the moment, our market share of all meals in restaurants in Britain is 6%. We would like to increase that number to 10% in the next 10 years. With our customers and our staff, that aim is possible. Thank you for listening. Do you have any questions?

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM AT YOUR WORKPLACE?

In my company, junior employees often work more than 60 hours a week. If the boss is in the office, we feel we have to stay until he leaves. Very often, we are not paid for working overtime, we work for free. And for many of us, the summer holiday is only a one-week vacation. We work a lot of overtime, but we arent more productive. We just have more health problems.

2 There is so much waste in our company! The air conditioning is on, and people open the windows. The cafeteria is empty, but all the lights are on. People photocopy everything, and the wastepaper baskets are full of copies nobody wants. Its a waste of money for the company, and its bad for the environment. We all need to try and do our bit to protect our environment.

3 Our company changes all the time, and every month some employees lose their jobs. We are very worried about losing our jobs. Its very stressful. We love our company, but sometimes we lose our motivation. We dont come to work on time, or we leave early. We are not very happy at work, and not very happy at home. Its a difficult situation for our families, too.

4 Things are better now than in the past, but many of my female colleagues arent happy. They often get less money than men for the same work, and its more difficult for us women to get promotion. In addition, working in teams is very difficult. We women can express our opinions, of course, but its almost always the manager who has the final word and makes the decision.

5 Put the problems in order, starting with the biggest. Explain your choice.
