The temporal summation of the amplitude-modulated wideband noise was investigated. The function of modulation was sinusoidal and had frequency 6, 30 or 150 Hz. It was found that the threshold stabilization occurs at the same number of cycles (18 - 20) at all modulation frequency. Then we determined thresholds depending on modulation function (continuous, interrupted periodical, interrupted no periodical). It was found that the amplitude modulation is essentially easier detected when the function is continuous. It suggests that there are the universal special mechanisms of the temporal summation of amplitude-modulated sounds in a human auditory system.

Key words: auditory system, amplitude modulation, temporal summation, detection thresholds.
