Збройні Сили України

Сухопутні війська (СВ) України – найбільш численний вид Збройних Сил. Вони складають основу Збройних Сил України. СВ призначені для: відбиття ударів сухопутних угруповань агресора; утримання території, районів, рубежів; розгрому угруповань противника, що вторглись на територію держави; участі у територіальній обороні держави. СВ включають роди військ (механізовані, танкові, аеромобільні, ракетні війська і артилерію, армійську авіацію, війська ППО) і спеціальні війська (розвідувальні, спеціального призначення, інженерні, РХБ захисту, зв’язку, радіоелектронної боротьби, топографічні, гідрометеорологічні, технічного, тилового та медичного забезпечення).

Повітряні сили (ПС) – один із головних носіїв бойового потенціа­лу Збройних Сил України. Цей високоманевровий вид Збройних Сил призначений для виконання таких завдань: охорона повітряного простору держави, ураження з повітря об’єктів противника, авіаційна підтримки своїх військ, висадка повітряних десантів, повітряне перевезення військ і матеріальних засобів, ведення повітряної розвідки. ПС включають роди авіації (бомбардувальну, винищувальну, штур­мову, розвідувальну, транспортну), а також зенітні ракетні війська, радіотехнічні війська, війська радіо- і радіотехнічної розвідки, засоби радіоелектронної боротьби і зв’язку.

Військово-Морські Сили (ВМС) України призначені для ураження об’єктів противника, підтримки Сухопутних військ у веденні бойових дій на приморських напрямках. До складу ВМС входять: надводні сили, підводні сили, авіація ВМС, війська берегової охорони, а також спеціальні установи, частини і підрозділи технічного, тилового та медичного забезпечення, військові навчальні та наукові заклади.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine

The Armed Forces of Ukraine are structurally organized into three armed services: the Land Forces, the Air Forces, and the Naval Forces.

The legal basis for the creation of the Land Forces was laid down by the Decree of the President of Ukraine “On the Land Forces of Ukraine” of May 1996. Under the Decree the Land Forces Command was established and the organizational structure of the armed service was developed. The Land Forces were initially composed of three Operational Commands: Western Command (Lviv), Southern Command (Odesa), and Northern Command (Chernihiv).

The Land Forces are the largest component of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They are equipped with T-62, T-64, T-72, T-80 battle tanks, BTR-60, BTR-70, BTR-80 armored personnel carriers, BMP-1, BMP-2, BMP-3, BMD-1, BMD-2 infantry fighting vehicles, cannons, mortars, helicopters, small arms and other weapons and systems.

The Ukrainian Air Forces was created on 17 March 1992 under the Directive of the Chief of the Main Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In 2006 the Air Force was combined with the Air Defense Forces. Currently, the Air Forces of Ukraine include five aviation branches (fighter, bomber, assault, reconnaissance, transport) and S-75, S-125, S-200, S-300 air defense missile systems as their main armament.

The mission of the Air Forces is to warn about an air or missile attack, fight the enemy air forces, and defend key administrative, political, industrial areas and centers of the country, military and civilian installations, troops and forces against air and missile attacks. Units of the Air Forces protect 7000-km long state air borders of Ukraine, monitor flights of aviation of all departments within the national air space limits and while crossing the state borders of nine neighboring states.

The creation of the Ukrainian Naval Forces began on 5 April 1992 with the Decree of the President of Ukraine “On Urgent Measures on the Construction of the Armed Forces of Ukraine”. The Naval Forces have in the inventory about 40 warships and auxiliary craft, 60 planes and helicopters. The main base of the Ukrainian Navy is Sevastopol. The mission of the Ukrainian Navy in peace time is to maintain constant combat readiness and perform combat duties for the protection of exclusive sea economic zone of Ukraine, to combat terrorism at sea, participate in joint peacekeeping operations with the Navies of other countries under the aegis of the United Nations.
