The Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics

On September 1, 1964 Minsk Radioengineering Institute admitted students for the first time. The youngest Institute of the Republic was established on the basis of the oldest Polytechnic Institute of the Republic of Belarus. It was assigned to meet the demand of the Republic in highly qualified specialists for evolving national radioelectronic industry.

In 1993 Minsk Radioengineering Institute was granted the status of university and celebrated its 30th anniversary as the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics. Within this period BSUIR has trained thousands of engineers, doctors and candidates of science.

Today BSUIR is a large scientific and educational center of Belarus. Over 17 thousand students from the country and outside study at its 10 faculties: the Faculty of Computer-Aided Design, the Faculty of Information Technologies and Control, the Faculty of Radioengineering and Electronics, the Faculty of Computer Systems and Networks, the Faculty of Telecommunication, the Faculty of Engineer Economics, the Correspondance Faculty, the Faculty of Continuing and Distance Learning, the Pre-University and Occupational Guidance Faculty, the Military Faculty.

Now BSUIR prepares engineering staff on 40 specialities in the field of computer science, radioengineering, microelectronics, artificial intelligence, medical electronics, economy, security, telecommunications and others.

The educative process and scientific research are conducted by highly competent teaching staff that consists of professors, assistant professors, lecturers and teachers. They give lectures, hold seminars and have practicals with students in various subjects: physics, higher mathematics, chemistry, technical drawing and so on. Special attention is given to such high-tech subjects as information technology, programming languages, computer design, communication technologies and many others. The outlook of students is influenced considerably by such social subjects as philosophy, sociology, political science, history of Belarus. Nobody can deny the vital importance of mastering foreign languages nowadays. English, French, German and Spanish are taught at the University. Besides, the Language Training Centre organized at the Foreign Languages Department 1 offers students an opportunity to advance in one of the above mentioned languages or learn a second foreign language such as Italian or Turkish.

The University has all necessary facilities for teaching including modern computer classes and joint educational centers with world leading companies Microsoft, IBM, National Instruments, Cisco, innovative research centers and laboratories. Electronic libraries are also at the students disposal.

The course of studies lasts four years. The academic year is divided into 2 terms. The first term runs from September to January, the second from February to July. At the end of each term students take credits and exams.

Advanced students can carry out research work under the guidance of supervisors and present the results of their research at the Students Scientific conference which is held every year at our University.

The University offers an active social life. Students can do sport, participate in different contests and events, take part in Students Club societies such as drama, vocal and dance groups, the group of acrobatic rock-n-roll and many others.

To sum up, the university provides a good engineering education. It offers modern specialities and good career prospects. The graduates of the University successfully work at international computer companies, industrial enterprises, research laboratories both in this country and abroad.
