Эволюционистский подход в психологической антропологии

Ни одна из областей, называемых “эволюционной” или “дарвинистской” психологической антропологией, в настоящее время не существует. “Эволюционная психология не имеет влияния на антропологию, несмотря на большое брожение, полемику и энтузиазм, которые она вызвала в биологии и психологии, несмотря быстро увеличивающийся успех, на ее претензии быть транскультурной и ее впечатляющий размах. А ведь эволюционно-психологическая литература включает такие темы, как эстетически организованный ландшафт, соперничество, сексуальная дифференциация, этноцентризм, фрейдовские защитные механизмы, социальная стратификация. Объяснение отсутствия ее воздействия на психологическую антропологию без сомнения связано с историей и традицией самой антропологии. “Биологические” подходы к человеческому поведению и культуре долгое время вызывали подозрение.”

Однако в последнее время некоторые положения эволюционной психологии стали привлекать внимание антропологов. Рассмотрим, в чем состоит суть эволюционной психологии и что в ней в настоящее время заинтересовало психологических антропологов.

Эволюционная психология отличается от академической общей психологии, являясь, если так можно выразиться, “комплексной психологией”. Ее изначальное предположение состоит в том, что естественный отбор поддерживает специфические информационн-процессуальные механизмы со специфическими правилами (некоторые называют их “алгоритмами”), которые развиваются в ответ на специфические адаптационные проблемы. Упор делается на прошлом, и в отличие от экологов поведения эволюционные психологи отводят мало места исследованию адаптивности тех или иных культурных черт в настоящее время. Это недостаток эволюционистской психологии, ибо какая-либо индивидуальная или культурная черта может быть адаптивна сегодня, не будучи адаптационной по своему происхождению, то есть, не будучи особым образом отобранной в прошлом. Равно и то, что могло быть в высокой степени адаптивным в прошлом, сегодня являются дезадаптивным. Эволюционная психология продуцирует гипотезы, основанных на предположении об адаптационных проблемах, которые, вероятно, стояли перед нашими дальними предками. Это ударение на предполагаемой прошлой адаптивности неизбежно влечет за собой методологическую слабость: без “машины времени” каким образом мы можем проверить прошлую адаптивность какой-либо черты? И хуже того, поскольку эволюционные психологи обычно говорят об адаптации к “древнему окружению”, остается факт, что существует много споров относительно того, что этого окружения представляло собой. Ни одно существующее человеческое или животное примитивное общество никогда не претендовало на то, что оно является пережитком нашего прошлого. Да, наши предки без сомнения охотились и занимались собирательством, но современные охотники и собиратели являются теми, чем они есть, нашими современниками, а не предками.

“Дополнительная слабостью эволюционной психологии является ее обычное (и часто имплицитное) предположение, что эволюцией с конца первобытных времен можно безопасно пренебречь, поскольку нет никакой причины верить, что естественный отбор внезапно прекратился в день, когда наши предки стали земледельцами. Эволюционные психологи отвечают на такую критику тем, что нет никакой причины верить, что мы развили новые “ментальные органы” или когнитивные способности с тех пор как закончились первобытные времена; возможно, что несколько генетических различий в основе поведения и развилось в ответ на естественный отбор или просто на статистические процессы, включающие малые популяции, но такие различия не могут быть фундаментальными. Хотя локальные популяции могли достичь легкого отличия в слуховых, зрительных, и обонятельных способностях, маловероятно, что они развили новые чувства, отличные от чувств других популяций. Если даже генетическое изменение, которое воздействует на нашу психологию, действительно существует в человеческих популяциях (спорное предположение, во всяком случае), то довольно невероятно, что такие отличия означали бы появление новых “ментальных органов” или специализированных психологических способностей.” Эволюционная психология предлагается случайный подбор адаптационных проблем, чье разрешение вероятно формировало нашу психологию.

С точки зрения эволюционной психологии, культура есть информационный бассейн, а индивидуум — активный пловец. Культура является вместилищем различных категорий информации, обрабатываемой мозгом различными способами. Индивид отбирает информационные единицы, “редактирует” их, изменяет, и, самое главное, использует их. Как индивид использует культурную информацию? С эволюционистской перспективы человеческие существа должны быть генетически эгоистичными. То есть, наши предки “отбирались” путем естественного отбора, так чтобы создавался генофонд, предполагающий реализацию тех или иных действий, наиболее адаптивных. Отсюда следует, что и мы отбираемся, чтобы использовать культуру генетически эгоистическим способом. Отсюда следует далее, что отбор поддерживает нашу изобретательность, остроту восприятия, а также предрасположенность к тем идеологиям, которые повышают нашу приспособляемость к среде обитания. Отсюда следует также, что культура является ареной конфликта, потому что индивиды и фракции “отбираются”, чтобы “проводить” идеологическую информацию, соответствующую их интересам, и в то же самое время стараются убедить других, что эта идеология служит всем. Здесь не подразумевается, что человеческие существа — сознательные лицемеры; скорее, мы “отбираемся”, чтобы быть сами того не осознавая заниматься самообманом (самообман является высоко-адаптивным средством в попытках повлиять на поведение других). Для каждого данного индивида некоторая социально сообщаемая информация, из которой состоит культура, скорее служит интересам других, чем в его собственным интересам. Впрочем, такую культурную схему можно построить и не прибегая к эволюционизму. Эволюционизм важен здесь потому, что обращает наше внимание на ряд ключевых проблем: структура культуры - это структура конфликта, культурная информация, внешне представляющаяся адаптивной, фактически может носить дезадаптивный характер, то, что адаптивно для культуры как целого, может быть дезадаптивно для включенного в нее индивида.

Что представляет собой с точки зрения эволюционной психологии проблема энкультурации? “Энкультурация не является пассивным процессом. Решение адаптационной проблемы сохранения культурно-информационного адаптирования, по всей видимости, является представление о культуре как о “редакторским механизме”. Непослушание подростка может отчасти показывать действие такого механизма. Стремление подростка учиться предпочтительно не у взрослых, а у престижных и “популярных” ровесников приводит к тому, что поведенческие модели усваиваются в модифицированном, “отредактированном” виде. Некоторая культурная информация, очевидно, является объектом для редактирования, ревизии и даже отвержения в большей степени, чем другая. Например, престижные модели поведения редактируются более, чем грамматическая структура национального языка. Важно здесь то, что подразумевается, что “трансмиссия” культурной информации всегда проблематична. Однако, как объяснить трансмиссию культуры в тех обществах, где она от поколения к поколению практически не меняется? Только тем, что наши развитые “редакционные механизмы” действуют таким образом, что как бы “пересоздают” большую часть культурной информации заново с каждым поколением. А это уже очевидная натяжка. Многим антропологам трудно объяснить культурные изменения. В рамках эволюционизма невозможно объясн6ить культурную стабильность. Между тем, любая теория “культурного изменения”, которая не является одновременно теорией “культурной стабильности” — в лучшем случае является неполной. Одна теория должна объяснять одновременно и стабильность и изменение.

Антропологию часто обвиняли в пристрастии к экзотике. Эволюционизм, напротив, основное внимание обращает на универсальное. Например, структурные элементы беседы различны, но существенные отношения всегда те же самые. Природа этноцентрических группирования зависит от расы, от профессиональных, от лингвистических, но всегда и во всех обществах люди формируют этноцентрические группы, которые развивают идеологию, оправдывающую их претензии на превосходство над другими группами. Подобным образом, хотя детали социальной стратификации и статусности различаются в человеческих обществах, нет общества, где понятия престижа и статуса отсутствовали бы. А потому, с точки зрения, эволюционизма, всякий анализ должен начинаться с признания факта, что человеческие существа борются за более высокое положение для себя и для своих детей, что статус играет ключевую роль в выборе супруга и в количестве родительского внимания, которое должно быть обеспечено для отпрысков и, что искусство социального обмена состоит в приобретении и поддержании социального положения.

Очевидно, что эволюционная психология зачастую дает ответы, недопустимые с точки зрения антропологии и просто ложные. Однако она ставит важные для психологической антропологии проблемы. Как пишет Джером Баркоу, “пока еще нет никакой “эволюционной психологической антропологии”, но вскоре будет. Сколь бы скудное внимание психологические антропологи не уделяли эволюционной биологии, они, конечно, внимательно относятся к психологии. Внутри этой дисциплины, эволюционно-психологический подход все еще юн и довольно спорен, но его использование растет (особенно в когнитивной психологии и психологии развития). Проблемы поставленные эволюционными психологами оказывают несомненное влияние на психологических антропологов.”

Значение эволюционистского подхода. Как мы уже отметили выше, эволюционизм интересен для этнопсихологии потому, что обращает наше внимание на ряд ключевых проблем: структура культуры - это структура конфликта, культурная информация, внешне представляющаяся адаптивной, фактически может носить дезадаптивный характер, то, что адаптивно для культуры как целого, может быть дезадаптивно для включенного в нее индивида. Определенный интерес представляет также эволюционистская трактовка трансмиссии культуры. Однако, несмотря на своей интерес к проблемам адаптации, этнопсихология считает эволюционизм в целом устаревшей и научно недоказанной теорией.
