Harvard College

Harvard College is one of the two schools within Harvard University granting undergraduate degrees. Founded in 1636 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, it is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States and one of the most prestigious in the world.

About 2,000 students are admitted each year; it is between five and ten percent of those people who apply. This number makes Harvard one of the most selective colleges in the world.

In the second year, most undergraduates join one of fifty standard fields of specialization (or majors); many also choose a secondary field (or minor). Most Harvard majors lead to the Bachelor of Arts degree, normally completed in four years. A smaller number receive the Bachelor of Science degree, which usually takes five years.
