SAMPLE ANSWERS

3. What is the most embarrassing fact about social care service? Please, describe and explain why you find it so.

I was unpleasantly surprised to learn about the fact that senior managers at social care service never tell the truth to their directors. Nevertheless, telling the truth to their bosses is quite essential for a good performance to be shown by social care institutions.

Very often for fear of being considered incapable senior managers shield their directors from the negative stuff not to make possible for the true position to come out and possibly very publicly.

In the first place, senior managers want their directors to feel comfortable, and if somethingwrong happens the directors should consider it as an isolated example. They are very much sure that their communication strategy will make it impossible for the community to understand the gap between the reality and the stories in the press.

Secondly, they dont realize that some day it might be too late to take corrective actions, eventually the performance figures will take a dip. And this terrifies me so much, I can tell you.

3. Please, describe the problem depicted in the above text. Develop two suggestions of yours to handle the problem. What do you think should be done to solve the problem and why?

As far as I understood from the text, the author described quite an essential problem that existsat social care institutions. Namely, it is a problem of significant ethic character. The author emphasizes the fact that telling lies should be excluded as it may ruin both interpersonalrelations and hope for a successful overall result in the professional activities. I believe that suchlike problems may be seen at many other places when relationships between managers and staff members are concerned.

I suggest that two possible solutions for the problem should be considered. Firstly, staffmembers must refuse the idea to ever manipulate the data provided to their managers and make it possible for them to accomplish the current tasks in the most appropriate and best way. Secondly, managers are not supposed to please their directors by hiding the negative informationfrom them as it may fail providing people with quality social services in a long time perspective.

I think that senior managers should not shield their managers from the negative stuff and reporteverything to them to improve services. As I understand it, senior managers work in close contact with the staff members and, therefore, they are sure to know the way the services are provided at their institution and have efficient means to influence the overall situation. So, its senior managers who should be more straightforward to their bosses and make it possible for them to work out a more sound policy at the institution.
