А может, мы начинаем отказываться от этой установки? Опрошенные в рамках одного из исследований студентки колледжа (преимущественно белые) утверждают, что им лично больше нравится, когда девушка позитивно говорит о своем теле, чем если она настроена по отношению к нему негативно. При этом, по мнению большинства опрошенных, в среднем женщины будут позитивнее относиться к тем женщинам, которые склонны критиковать себя и свое тело [222].

В 2009 году я участвовала в конференции по проблемам расстройства нарушения пищевого поведения, где обсуждалось, как под влиянием массовой культуры сформировалось мнение о том, что идеальное тело — это непременно худое тело. В ходе дискуссии я поняла, что все дело в социальном статусе мужчины. Идеализация женской худобы возникла в западной культуре на фоне того, что женщина рассматривалась как собственность мужчины и символ его статуса. В XVII веке идеалом было округлое, мягкое, полное женское тело. Только женщины из состоятельных семей могли позволить себе употреблять в пищу сдобное тесто, масло, хорошую муку, да еще вести сидячий образ жизни, в результате чего и приобретались рубенсовские формы. К середине XIX века на фоне промышленной революции и быстрого формирования среднего класса мужчина стал считаться состоятельным и успешным, если мог позволить себе взять в жены женщину слабую и хрупкую, неспособную работать. Стало престижным иметь жену небольшого роста, худощавую, способную лишь изящной походкой прогуливаться по дому или саду, но не способную трудиться. Это полностью противоречит логике эволюционного развития, в ходе которого женщина формировалась как сильная, устойчивая, здоровая, рослая самка, способная зачать, выносить и родить, а потом кормить детей. В XXI веке тело все еще остается символом социального статуса: состоятельные женщины могут позволить себе качественные продукты и располагают временем на спортивные тренировки и уход за собой. Таким образом, требования, предъявляемые модой к женскому телу, связаны с социальным статусом, но не соответствуют логике эволюции и не имеют отношения к способности к деторождению — если только эволюция не стала теперь опираться на социальный статус в ущерб здоровью. Так стоит ли доверять культуре, требующей, чтобы женское тело выглядело только так и никак иначе?

Почти одинаково. Существуют схожие категории стимулов: «нарушение границ тела», связанное с физическим насилием, кровью и болью; и «базовое отвращение», связанное с системой пищеварения. Разные виды отвращения стимулируют разные реакции [203].

В работе Бекера и др. [24] говорится, что 35 % опрошенных подтвердили, что в последние 28 дней проводили очищение организма с помощью натурального травяного слабительного. Томас и др. в работе [217] утверждают, что 74 % из тех, кто принимал растительное слабительное, признают, что делали это с целью снижения веса, а не по медицинским соображениям.

В обществе одновременно существуют две конфликтующие модели: моральная и медийная. Это проявляется, в частности, в растущей популярности женского образа «мадонна-шлюха». Я советую вам прочесть работу Толмана [221], где подробно говорится о том, как такой образ становится частью сексуальности молодых женщин.

Глава 6. Возбуждение

Если вы проведете этот эксперимент, взяв вместо фотоплетизмографа термистор (маленький датчик, который прикрепляется к малым половым губам изнутри и измеряет температуру, свидетельствующую об увеличении притока крови), вы получите чуть более выраженное наложение результатов [110]. При использовании магнитно-резонансной визуализации, позволяющей с высокой точностью измерять динамику притока крови в области таза, вы получите чуть менее выраженное наложение результатов [101]. Если у вас будет по-настоящему точная техника и вы измерите не только приток крови к гениталиям и субъективное возбуждение, но и активность мозга с помощью функциональной магнитно-резонансной томографии, вы обнаружите, что генитальный ответ у женщин вообще не пересекается с активностью мозга [8].

Недавно вышел специальный выпуск Biological Psychology, посвященный исследованиям конкордантности, ни одно из которых не было связано с сексом [117].

Акин сначала извинился за свое высказывание, однако в 2014 году написал, что сожалеет об извинении, потому что стресс — возникающий, разумеется, вследствие изнасилования — препятствует оплодотворению, и именно это он имел в виду, когда говорил о «способах все это прекратить» [72]. Уточним: его мнение как бывшего (и потенциально будущего) парламентария состоит в том, что, если у женщины не происходит выкидыш, значит, она не была «легально» изнасилована.

Подобные исследования не раз повторялись за последние двадцать лет, однако самые первые данные на эту тему получили Морокофф и Хейман [173].

Конкретнее: от среднего показателя 2,51 без лекарственного препарата до 2,98 с использованием препарата, по шкале от 1 до 5 [233]; обратите внимание, этот результат является статистически значимым. Более подробную критику статистики в психологических исследованиях см. в [206].

Я выбрала эти три примера на основании женщин, проходящих терапию. Участниц разделили на две группы: в первую вошли те, кто реагировал на тестостерон и стандартный препарат от эректильной дисфункции (контрольная группа), во вторую — те, кто не реагировал на препараты (терапевтическая группа). Участницы, входившие в обе группы, были примерно одного возраста, имели примерно одинаковый индекс массы тела, почти все были белыми женщинами с одинаковым статусом менопаузы и историей использования противозачаточных средств. Терапевтическая группа существенно отличалась от контрольной группы по трем пунктам: у женщин в терапевтической группе было больше детей, они состояли в более длительных отношениях и в два раза больше сообщали о перенесенном в прошлом негативном сексуальном опыте. Единственную разницу между группами составляли эти три контекстных фактора: дети, длительность отношений и жизненная история.

Глава 7. Влечение

Это приблизительные цифры, не стоит воспринимать их как непреложную истину. Важны не конкретные пропорции, а достоверная разница широкой палитры видов сексуального поведения и мыслей. Ниже я привожу цифры, основанные на результатах исследования. Из 225 сорокалетних голландских женщин 32,4 % сообщили, что никогда не испытывали «спонтанного либидо» [85]. Из 1749 женщин в Соединенных Штатах 33 % сообщили об отсутствии влечения и интереса к сексу [166]. В рамках того же исследования об отсутствии интереса к сексу сообщили 16 % мужчин. В группе, состоящей преимущественно из участников студенческого возраста, 28 % женщин и 15 % мужчин сообщили, что им хочется секса раз в неделю или реже; 7 % женщин и 52 % мужчин сообщили, что им хочется секса как минимум раз в день [22]. Из 853 американских женщин 29 % сообщили, что за последний месяц «с интересом думали о сексе или возбуждались» реже одного раза в неделю; 14 % думали о сексе или возбуждались ежедневно [16]. В мультиэтнической выборке из 3248 женщин в возрасте 40–45 лет 42 % сообщили, что за последний месяц испытывали желание заняться сексом не более двух раз [47]; 30 % сообщили, что хотят секса с регулярностью раз в неделю/ежедневно. Из 3687 португальских женщин 30,7 % сообщили, что часто или всегда испытывают влечение только после того, как возбуждаются [51]; около 12 % участниц этого исследования «часто» фантазировали о сексе и 12 % «очень часто или всегда» делали первый шаг, предлагая секс своему партнеру. Среди норвежских и португальских мужчин в возрасте 18–45 лет 74 % продемонстрировали спонтанное влечение, 2,5 % — ответное влечение и 24 % — «пониженное» (в терминологии авторов исследования) влечение [212]. Единственную прогнозируемую разницу между группами составляла «подверженность сексуальной скуке в отношениях», что, позволю себе предположить, было связано с чувствительностью SES.

Разумеется, у разных людей это происходит по-разному. Сценарий 1 может показаться спонтанным человеку с менее чувствительным к стрессу тормозом, а сценарий 3 может показаться ответным человеку, чей газ требует больше стимуляции, прежде чем затеплившееся возбуждение вспыхнет и превратится во влечение. Но по сути этот процесс происходит у всех одинаково. Возбуждение + правильный контекст (подходящие внешние обстоятельства и внутренний настрой) = влечение.

См. [70]. Увы, эти доводы, предложенные с похвальной целью защитить женщин от сексуальных привилегий мужчин, часто уходят в другую крайность и начинают проповедовать абсолютное воздержание. Вот почему так важно признать секс поощрительно-мотивационной системой, такой же естественной, как любопытство или тяга к исследованию и игре.

Более точное и научное описание маленькой наблюдательницы (уточняющее, например, что на самом деле никакой наблюдательницы в вашем мозгу, конечно, не существует) вы найдете в [55].

Кроме того, это делается с целью избежать чего-либо. Это «антицели», и они — мишень цепей обратной связи, увеличивающих, а не сокращающих несоответствие [54].

В сравнительной психологии феномен любопытства рассматривается как «исследование» [219, 180].

Из четырех краеугольных камней эротизма, предложенных секс-терапевтом Джеком Морином, три связаны с процессами уменьшающих несоответствие цепей обратной связи — маленькой наблюдательницей: тяготение и предвкушение, нарушение запретов и преодоление неопределенности. Только стремление к власти не связано непосредственно с процессом сокращения разрыва [172].

В некоторых случаях, в основном медицинского характера, гормоны действительно способны вызвать проблемы с влечением. Например, женщины, перенесшие двойную оварэктомию (удаление яичников) в возрасте до сорока пяти лет, вероятно, будут испытывать пониженное влечение. Также существует подгруппа женщин (около 15 %), чья способность к сексуальному возбуждению зависит от тестостерона, в основном во время приема гормональных контрацептивов; точнее, их механизм сексуального ответа отличается низкой восприимчивостью к тестостерону, поэтому, чтобы в них пробудился сексуальный интерес, им нужно больше тестостерона. Около трети женщин теряют интерес к сексу, начав принимать противозачаточные препараты, но каждая пятая женщина, наоборот, начинает испытывать к сексу повышенный интерес, а оставшаяся половина не замечает разницы [200]. Поэтому, если ваш интерес к сексу пошел на спад после того, как вы начали пить гормональные контрацептивы, и вы хотите его вернуть, поменяйте таблетки либо попробуйте диафрагму, внутриматочное кольцо, противозачаточный имплант или другое гормональное средство. Тело каждой женщины по-своему отвечает на разные сочетания гормонов. Также было обнаружено, что возрастное снижение интереса к сексу у женщин, о котором шло столько разговоров, связано не с гормонами, а с возрастом как таковым [75]. Это сложный процесс, и, конечно, существуют исключения, но в целом проверенное правило подсказывает, что гормоны способны помочь с генитальными/периферийными проблемами — болью, сухостью, потерей ощущений и так далее, — но не с проблемами мозга. А влечение зарождается в мозге [19].

Чарльз Карвер предположил, что удовольствие может быть сигналом: здесь все в порядке, перестаньте обращать внимание на эту область и сосредоточьтесь на чем-нибудь менее приятном [53].

Эта мысль легла в основу моего диссертационного исследования, в котором я наблюдала, как изменялось распространение болезни среди населения в искусственной модели мира на основе сравнительной плотности распределения [174].

Глава 8. Оргазм

Кинси определяет оргазм как «внезапную разрядку, вызывающую отдельные локальные спазмы либо более продолжительные и обширные конвульсии». Мастерс и Джонсон говорят об «оргазмической стадии» — это «несколько секунд, в течение которых вазоконцентрация [сужение кровеносных сосудов] и миотония [сокращение мышц], возникшие в результате сексуальной стимуляции, резко прекращаются. Этого пика можно непроизвольно достигнуть в любой момент, когда сексуальное напряжение становится максимальным в данном конкретном случае». Как вы заметили, это довольно широкие определения, в отличие от принятого в XXI веке «консенсуса о том, что женский оргазм представляет собой внезапный пиковый скачок интенсивного сексуального удовольствия, сопровождающегося ритмическими сокращениями околовагинальной мускулатуры таза, часто с сопутствующими сокращениями матки и ануса» [32]. Этот «консенсус» противоречит исследованиям, посвященным нонконкордантности и контекстуальному отсутствию удовольствия при оргазме.

В мозге происходит множество процессов. Подробнее о них в [86].

Исследования обнаружили, что около 30 % женщин испытывают ночной оргазм [154].

Также верно, что во время вагинальной и клиторальной стимуляции «освещаются» различные участки мозга [132]. Разные отделы мозга связаны с разными частями тела. Но мы не называем это «вагинальным соматосенсорным кортикальным оргазмом» или «клиторальным соматосенсорным кортикальным оргазмом». Женщины с травмами позвоночника могут вообще исключить из процесса спинной мозг и испытывать оргазм в результате стимуляции черепно-мозгового нерва, который проходит напрямую между шейкой матки и мозгом [131]. И это не «нейрочерепной оргазм». Все это просто оргазмы, и им не требуется дополнительных классификаций. Не важно, какую часть тела или какие отделы мозга вы стимулируете, процесс остается неизменным: оргазм — это внезапная разрядка сексуального напряжения.

Эти показатели воспроизводились множество раз с использованием самых разных методик на разных этапах, включая работы Кинси и «Отчет» Хайт. Самые высокие показатели пенетрации во время мастурбации я обнаружила в исследовании 2007 года, где женщин просили ответить на вопрос, используют ли они вибратор или вводят другие предметы в вагину. 21,4 % участниц ответили «положительно, по крайней мере иногда» [52]. Важно отметить, что вибратор, как правило, используется для внешней стимуляции; Дэвис, Бланк, Лин и Бониллас [61] обнаружили, что 3 % женщин мастурбировали с вибратором, «изначально» введенным в вагину, а 24 % стимулировали вибратором различные части гениталий, среди которых могла быть вагина; 14 % сообщили о том, что двигают вибратором только внутрь и наружу; 79 % женщин сообщили, что стимуляция клитора вибратором во время одиночной мастурбации приводит к оргазму «часто или всегда»; 30 % сообщили, что такой же эффект имеет стимуляция вибратором вагины. Кроме того, согласно данным Хайт, 1,5 % женщин мастурбируют исключительно путем вагинальной пенетрации; 5 % всегда вводят какие-либо предметы в вагину во время мастурбации; 1 % вводит какие-либо предметы в вагину во время оргазма, одновременно стимулируя другой рукой вульву; еще 1 % вводит пальцы в вагину, чтобы получить смазку. Кинси обратил внимание на анатомическую разницу между вагиной и входом во влагалище: многие женщины, сообщавшие о вагинальной пенетрации при мастурбации, в действительности не отличали преддверие влагалища (густо пронизанное нервными окончаниями) от самой вагины (к которой подходит мало нервных окончаний). Во многих случаях женщина вводила пальцы ненамного глубже мускульного кольца, расположенного на входе во влагалище, чтобы обеспечить удобное положение для руки, которой стимулировала внешние части гениталий.

Рид, Кинг и Уотсон [193] обнаружили 7 % в общем клиническом образце.

Саймонс и Кэри [207] в своей рецензии на исследование пишут: 7–10 %. Обратите внимание на то, что 80 % женщин с диагностированной «пожизненной» аноргазмией с успехом проходят психологическую терапию [107]. Именно это натолкнуло меня на подозрение, что количество женщин, действительно страдающих пожизненной аноргазмией, существенно меньше 5–10 %. Половина участников исследования, не надевших носки, все же достигла оргазма, однако, когда они надели носки, этот показатель увеличился до 80 %.

Глава 9. Мета-эмоции

См. [230, 205]. Во второй работе автор неожиданно приходит к выводу, что наблюдаемую разницу обеспечивает интероцепция — осознание собственного тела, — несмотря на то что фактор «наблюдать» значительно не изменился, а фактор «отказ от оценки» изменился наиболее существенно.

См. [116]. В ходе подобного исследования тревожного расстройства и депрессии, сравнивающего шкалу осознанности и шкалу сочувствия к себе, было установлено, что сочувствие к себе более точно прогнозирует качество жизни, чем осознанность [231].

Сходные идеи (необходимость ставить перед собой более подходящие цели) изложены в модели «достаточно хороший секс», разработанной Майклом Метцем и Барри Маккарти и описанной в их книге [165]. Чтобы сохранять сексуальную удовлетворенность в долговременных отношениях, согласно их концепции, нужно следить за реалистичностью своих ожиданий, шире толковать игривость и удовлетворение, практиковать гибкость, разнообразие, асинхронность (не испытывать одновременно одно и то же чувство) и понимать «рисунок эротического потока» вашего партнера [160, 165].
