Washington D. . is the capital of the USA. The city is named after George Washington, the first president of the United States of America. For ten years Philadelphia was the capital of the country, but as many states wanted to be the capital-city of their territory, it was agreed to build the capital-city on a neutral territory, belonging to no state. That is why it was built in the District of Columbia (D. C). The territory was found between Virginia and Maryland. Washington is not the largest city in the United States.
