My Native Town

My native town is Murom. I was born in it and I like it very much. Its the finest town for me.

Murom is famous for its age. It is one of the oldest Russian towns. It was founded in 862 (eight hundred sixty two) and now it is more than 1140 years old. Murom is situated on the left bank of the river Oka. It is not far from the capital of our country Moscow.

My town is not big. Its population is about 150 000. Murom is less than Vladimir, but it is one of the most important and biggest towns in Vladimir region. Many plants are situated in Murom and a lot of industries are developed in it. These are radio-engineering, mechanical-engineering, chemical, textile ones and so on.

You can get good education in Murom. There are 20 secondary schools and some colleges in it, such as pedagogical, medical, radio-engineering ones. At colleges the students can get different professions. It is also possible to get higher education in Murom. There are some higher schools in it. Many sports, musical and art schools are situated in Murom too.

Murom has a lot of interesting places. The Palace of Culture is situated near Victory Square. We have some other beautiful squares too, for example Railway Square with the monument to Nikolai Gastello, but Victory Square is the best.

There are a lot of parks in Murom. Oksky Park is the finest. I like it very much. It is situated on the bank of the river Oka. You can see very old trees in it. There are a lot of entertainments there too. But the most interesting place is the monument to Ilya Muromets. It was founded in 1999 (nineteen ninety one).

Murom is famous for its churches. They are the most beautiful buildings in our town and its very interesting for tourists to visit them. The most famous ones are Voskresenskaya, Smolenskaya, Nickola-Naberezhnaya churches, Blagoveshchensky monastery. The oldest Kozma-Demyanskaya church was founded by Ivan the Terrible in the sixteenth century.

Its also important for many people to visit the Historical Museum. We can see a lot of interesting things there and we can learn much about the history of our town.

I love my town and I am glad to live in it.
