OVERVIEW: The port is made up two parts, Old Port and Gazenica Cargo
Port. Gazenica consist of two piers and handles general cargo, dry bulk and
bulk liquid. The Old Port has 1,090 m. of wharfage and 11 moorings, used
by coastal, passenger vessels and ferries.
LOCATION: Centrally on the mainland of Croatia and protected by islands
to the SW.

RESTRICTIONS: None.
ARRIVAL: A vessel is considered to have arrived when at one of the
anchorages.
APPROACHES: Old Port: Well sheltered harbour, easy access, depth
7.0 m. at entrance and width 70 m. between Zadar Peninsula and the
breakwater.
Gazenica Commercial Port: 2.5 n.m. south of Zadar. A 0.5 n.m. long and
80 m. wide approach channel leads from Zadarski Kanal to the berths in
Gazenica deep water port. A light buoy moored 0.5 n.m. SE of Point Kolovare
marks the north side of the channel. On its south side, 0.7 n.m. SSE of Point
Kolovare, lies an unmarked rock with a depth of 8.2 m.

PILOTAGE: Compulsory for all vessels over 500 g.r.t. Pilot boards
approaching vessels at the anchorage, about 0.5 n.m. west of the green port
light on the north part of Zadar peninsula, or at separate anchorage allocated
to tankers carrying dangerous cargoes. Pilots listen on VHF Channel 16 and
work on Channel 12.
Coastal pilotage is compulsory for tankers carrying dangerous cargoes and
pilot boards/disembarks from vessel in position Lat. 4423' 18" N,
Long. 14 34' 36" E, near Grujica Lighthouse, where anchoring not possible.
24 hours notice of ETA at pilot station is requested together with confirmation
of ETA not later than 12 hours in advance. Coastal Pilot available on VHF
Channels 12 or 16.
ANCHORAGES: Anchorage (for all vessels except for tankers carrying
dangerous cargoes) 0.5 n.m. 245(T) from green port light on the north
part of Zadar peninsula, in a depth of about 40 m.
Separate anchorage for tankers carrying dangerous cargoes in the area
between positions Lat. 44 07' 12" N to 4408' 36" N, and Long. 15 08' 24" E
to 1510' 24" E.
PRATIQUE: To obtain free pratique 24 hours prior to arrival, advise
following details: number of crew and passengers, health conditions and
possible infectious diseases. No person allowed to leave vessel until free
pratique obtained.
PRE-ARRIVAL INFORMATION: ETA notice required 72 hours,
48 hours and 24 hours for tankers, 48 hours and 24 hours for all other
vessels. 48 hours advanced cargo specification is required for vessels carrying
dangerous/noxious cargoes. Notice to be sent by email or fax.
VHF: Split Radio and Zadar Radio listen on Channel 16. Port Captain on
Channels 16 and 10. Pilots listen on Channel 16 and work on Channel 12.
TIME: GMT plus 1 hour. Summertime kept.
LOCAL HOLIDAYS: 1 and 6 January; last Sunday in March; 12 April;
1 May; 10, 22 and 25 June; 5 and 15 August; 8 and last Sunday in October;
1 November; 25 and 26 December.
Moveable Holidays: Easter Sunday and Monday and Corpus Christi.
WEATHER/TIDES: Tidal Range: The tide is mainly diurnal and rises
up to 0.65 m. However, the water level is affected by weather conditions.
During February to April, the sea level may fall 0.5 m. below normal.
Currents: Currents are negligible.
Wind: When entering the new basin at Gazenica, south and NW winds could
affect navigation.
