The article analyzes the criteria of civilization on the example of Mongolia. It is shown that for a number of objective criteria, Mongolia is much more civilized country than many Western countries. It concerns knowledge of the history and culture of the other nations, the preservation of biosphere potential of the country, rejection of the ideology of consumerism, the worship of natural and cultural shrines. It concludes that there are two fundamental criteria of civilization: the contribution of the country (or of the civilization) in the conservation of nature and the preservation and development of spiritual culture.

According to the author, today, alas, "civilized savage" is a very common phenomenon in the developed countries of the West. "Civilized savages" is full of social, ethnic and religious prejudices. They live for the sake of comfort and pleasure. Their horizon does not extend beyond the microcosm of personal and professional interests. They are frequenters of pubs, football matches and rock concerts, but you rarely see them in museums or on serious performances. The main source of information the Internet and media. If, for example, to compare what I know the Russians and the Mongols on the U.S. that the average American knows about the Russians and the Mongols, according to the results of numerous sociological researches, the comparison will be obvious not in favour of the American. But objective knowledge of the culture and history of other peoples and, most importantly, respect for them is one of the most important criteria of education and civility of man.
