IV. Writing

Ex.10. Write an essay on the topic Letters: later and now (minimum 200 words).

The history of mail is closely connected with writing history. With origin of the last information began to be transferred in writing that has laid the foundation for a mail service. In the beginning such communication was incidental. With emergence of the slaveholding states in the Ancient East which governors needed constant information on situation in own country and in territories subject to them the mail service began to gain the ordered character.

The first institutions of the ordered service of messages have arisen early enough in antique times. For the first time the post message has appeared in Mesopotamia for the information transfer imprinted in the form of the clay letter about 5000 years ago. Not less ancient is the mail service in Egypt.

Originally similar services were used generally in the military purposes and didn't intend for communication between civilians. Services of messages in Ancient Egypt, Assyria, Babylon and Persia were those. Especially developed they were in Egypt and can be considered by predecessors of modern mail. At the time of the IV dynasty of Pharaohs (2900 2700 BC) the service of special pedestrian (fast walkers), and also horse messengers worked, providing communication on military roads with Libya, Ethiopia and Arabia.

Ancient Egyptian mail has been based mainly on use of numerous pedestrian messengers thanks to whom Pharaohs could make contacts with remote provinces without special difficulties. In Beni Hassan on a wall-painting of one of the caves tombs relating to an era of the Average kingdom the messenger reporting to the official the message on invasion of the enemy tribe is represented. It is known of the professional messengers existing in Egypt during an era of the XII dynasty (1985 1785 BC) who carried imperial orders up to Asia. Messengers had to overcome long distances as soon as possible. Also applied carrier pigeons to transportation of letters.

E-mail (English email, e-mail, from English electronic mail) technology and service for transfer and obtaining the electronic messages (called "letters", "e-mails" or "messages") between users of computer network (including the Internet).

E-mail on structure of elements and the principle of work practically repeats system of usual (paper) mail, borrowing as terms (mail, the letter, an envelope, an investment, a box, delivery and others), and characteristics usability, delays of transmission of messages, sufficient reliability and at the same time lack of a guarantee of delivery.

Advantages of e-mail are: the addresses of a type of an imya_polzovatelya@imya_domen which are easily perceived and remembered by the person (for example, [email protected]); a possibility of transfer both the plain text and formatted and also any files (text documents, media files, programs, archives, etc.); independence of servers (generally they address to each other directly); rather high reliability of delivery of the message; usability person and programs.

E-mail shortcomings: existence of such phenomenon as spam (mass advertizing and virus mailings); possible delays of delivery of the message (up to several days); restrictions for the size of one message and for the general size of messages in a mailbox (personal for users).

Now any novice user can get the free electronic mailbox, it is enough be registered on one of the Internet portals.
