English outside the classroom

Discussion

  • Many extracurricular activities, such as the school newspaper, photography, and drama, can lead to careers.
  • Extracurricular activities should be fun rather than stressful for students.
  • Children who participate in one or more after-school activities have higher levels of self-esteem than children who do not participate.
  • Students should make out a schedule that balances school, after-school activities, and home life.

Agree/disagree

1. Extracurricular activities broaden childrens horizons, stimulate their learning and encourage their interest in the world around them.

2. Extracurricular activities should be offered at weekends.

3. Extracurricular programmes give the opportunity to develop all sorts of skills including those acquired through team work, as well as hidden talents.

4. Extracurricular activities should be free of charge.

Read the text. Express your opinion

In everything we do, there must be balance. Without it, the world will either be too boring or too catastrophic. When we eat, there must be balance. When we work, we still must be able to give time for our private lives. And when we go to school, as students, we must be able to balance our academic performance with those of our extracurricular activities. Extracurricular activities measure how we can manage our time. It is a fact that we were sent to school to develop and deepen our knowledge in the subjects that are required by the institution. However, this is not where our knowledge and experience must end. In the real world outside the four corners of our classrooms we deal with more than the things that are learned in books and those provided by our teachers.
