Like Father, Like Son

This week we talk to artist Chris Dannis and his son Kirk. Last weekend Chris taught Kirk to draw, and Kirk taught his father to windsurf. Lets see how successful they were in doing something new.
Chris Were a very close family. There are a lot of similarities between me and Kirk and we both like being outside. He is much more active than me but hes 20 and Im 52, so thats not surprising! I spend a lot of time walking on the cliffs by the sea and sometimes I do 100 drawings a day. In the holidays, Kirk is usually in the sea windsurfing. He can spend all day doing that and I can say he is really good at it.
I had never tried windsurfing before last weekend. The day was warm but the sea was rough not great conditions for a beginner! We went to a beach near Lands End near Cornwall. Kirk swam in the sea next to me and showed how to balance on the board. It was exhausting! I really enjoyed the experience, but I wont take up windsurfing my time is too precious for another big hobby. But I was surprised at how much I liked it! But the best thing about the weekend was sharing time together with my son.
Kirk Dad and I are really close. We have much in common and we get on like friends as well as father and son. But we dont have much chance to do things together, because Im away at university and I only see my Mum and Dad every two or three months.
My Dad is fond of drawing. He spends much of his free time doing this. He goes on long walks and always takes a sketchbook with him. I decided to see if I had any of his talent.
On the day we went out we walked along the cliffs above a beach. Sometimes we stopped walking to draw. It was really difficult! Dad was giving me advice all the time. I did lots of drawings but I couldnt see any improvement by the end! My Mum liked them, but I think she was just kind to me.
Ill definitely go for a walk with Dad again, but I dont think Ill draw any more Im not going to be an artist!
