Lesson plan

I Preliminaries:

1. Greeting:

Teacher: Hello boys and girls! Im glad to see you today. Sit down, please. The topic of our lesson is Present Continuous.

2. Warming-up:

1) Now look at the board. Can you see our favourite Dragon Conti?

It has got three heads (am, is, are) and one tail (-ing).

 

 

Lets practice the pronunciation of the ending -ing. Pupils say the rhyme chorally:

2) Teacher: Lets sing the song Brother John!

 

Are you sleeping, are you sleeping,

Brother John? Brother John?

The morning bell is ringing,

The morning bell is ringing,

Ding, ding, dong. Ding, ding, dong.

II Teacher: Now boys and girls lets remember how we make -ing forms. Most verbs take -ing:

play - playing

Verbs ending consonant + drop e and take -ing:

write writing

Verbs ending one vowel + one consonant, except -y or -w, double consonant +ing:

snorkel - snorkelling

 

 

Writing

1)Teacher: Lets play a game. Your class is divided in two teams. Players of the each team should go to the board and write the correct -ing form of the verbs(1 point for each correct answer):

do drive

swim walk

read run

make go

sleep meet

2)Teacher: Now lets remember how we form affirmative sentences in Present Continuous. Dragon Conti will help you.

How many tails has it got?

Teacher: Write sentenses using the Present Continuous (GB: p.34, ex.) The team that completes the exercise first gets one point + one point for each correct sentence:

1) she / write / a letter 4) he / skateboard

2) they / watch /TV 5) we/ do / an exam

3) he / wait / at the bus stop 6) I / swim

Speaking

Teacher: Your next task is to make the sentences in exercise 1 negative. What word do we add to am, is, are to make sentences negative? (not) One team reads aloud the affirmative sentence in exercise 1, another team makes it negative and gets one point for each correct sentence.

Teacher: Your homework was to ask and answer questions about Annie, Jen, Molly, Sarah and Liz. Ask and answer in teams.
