From the point of view of commercial activity, management is a type of professional activity of the firm, directed on achievement of the planned purposes by rational use material and a manpower with application of the principles, functions and methods of the economic mechanism of management.

In the economic science there are different approaches to definition of essence and the content of management. First of all, management is defined as integration process by means of which highly competent experts form the organizations and operate them by statement of the purposes and development of ways of their achievement. Process of management includes performance functions of planning, the organization, coordination, motivation, carrying out which managers provide conditions for productive and effective work that, as a result leads to achievement of the objectives. Therefore management is also an ability to achieve the goals, directing work, intelligence, behavior of the people working in the organization.

And, at last, management can be considered as a group of people (managers, heads, board of directors, shareholders, etc.) which role is a key in adoption of effective decisions. He has to be able to analyze a situation, to create and estimate various plans and programs, to make decisions, to assume responsibility for their performance.

The next group of qualities of the manager are organizing, and also business qualities. They reflect the level of organizing culture of the manager, possession of technology of administrative work, in particular selection and use of shots, development of norms and plans of activity of divisions.
