1. What and who influenced her/his choice of career? 2. What did her/his parents want her/him to do? 3. What was the parents attitude to the choice of career at first? 4. Has the parents attitude changed? If so, why? 5. In what ways do the parents think that times have changed since they were young? The Nanny
Amandas nannies influenced her choice.
Her father wanted her to be a solicitor.
Her parents thought it was a childish phase and there were some terrible rows in the family.
They werent angry for long and made it up before she went to college, and they had encouraged her ever since.
To my mind her parents became aware that the world had changed and nannying and other modern servant professions had become more socially acceptable.
The Cook
His grandparents cook influenced his choice.
His relatives wanted him to do the farming.
His parents supported him though his father was taken aback at first.
His parents are proud of him though his grandfather continues thinking he is mad.
Now his parents think that anyone with a job they enjoy is very lucky.
The Gardener
Hugos family had a gardener and Hugo spent hours watching him.
He studied archaeology and his parents were delighted when he went to Oxford.
They got very angry as they thought manual labour was not the career for their only son.
They made it up when their daughter told them not to worry because Hugo would be a millionaire by the time he was forty.
His parents think times have changed and all kinds of people do all kinds of work and that makes them happy.

V. Describe in writing the main idea of the three texts.

They say so many people so many jobs. Cooking, gardening, quilting, knitting and a great many of other jobs is not only a hobby nowadays. People earn money on what they can do and can do professionally. Many people like to hire full time maids for their home, who can take care of their entire house and keep it clean and exquisite. Most of gardeners, cooks have a personal interest in their business.

To be a modern servant nowadays is becoming a common thing. It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve to disabled people, to do child keeping, to grow plants and design the private gardens, to do the cooking and make up new recipes to make people happy and to bring joy in their life.
