As we study at the same University and at the same faculty, Vladimir faces the same problems and has the same daily routine as I have. He can organize his time wisely and he knows in what order he should do things though sometimes he spends sleepless nights at disco clubs. He doesn't find hard to get up on time. In spite of the fact he doesn't get enough sleep he is sure not to do oversleep.

In the morning he is refreshed and full of energy. While I am wandering round the kitchen, fighting the urge to go back to bed, he manages to have a quick shower, eat a full breakfast and set off for the university.

As you understand his study keeps him busy all the day long. At 9 classes begin. We have lectures, practical lessons, laboratory works and designed classes, where we are trained to draw logical conclusions, to record observations accurately and to present scientific reports. We are familiarized with the characteristics of engineering materials, equipment and machines. We study different branches of engineering. Of course subjects we study at the University differ from those we learnt at school. He says that he didn't suppose it would be a problem for him to do his study.

At lunch time I meet up with Vladimir to have a snack and to talk about different things. After classes he makes himself go to the reading hall reading for seminars.

He comes home tired. He knows that keeping up late ruins his health but he is always tempted the idea of putting his homework off and as a rule he sits up late.

He is a sporty person and keeps fit by doing physical exercises. From time to time he works out in the gym. Sometimes he goes out to a party or to a disco but usually he ends up with his study.

He has a supper on a tray looking through summaries and watching TV for a while.

Almost exhausted he goes to bed hoping that tomorrow he will have less work to do and he will be able to go out to entertain.

***

As you know students work six days a week, but most people in our country work five days. I always envy them. So, you may guess, as I am a first year student I have the only day off Sunday. On Sunday I don't have to hurry up anywhere. I am not an early riser and it is rare Sunday when I get up before 9 o'clock.

When I have time for leisure, I need something that can interest and amuse me. As I am busy as a bee during my week-days, the only thing I want is to have a good rest. Of course, it doesn't mean that I stay in bed idling away the time or watch TV all day long. I prefer to go out and fortunately, there are a lot of clubs and cinemas in our city, where I can spend time with my friends. As I am fond of sport I go to a gym to keep fit. I don't mind watching TV because, I think, television helps us to "visit" different lands, see fish and insects, lakes, rivers, seas. We are shown different countries, cities and people who live there. Radio and television extend our knowledge about the world. But it doesn't mean that I watch TV-programs from morning till night, I am sure, it is rather boring and I am always sorry for those TV-addicts. It is much more interesting to go roller-blading or to skate and to ski. I help my mother about the house with washing up. I do my flat and sometimes help mother cook.

So, on this day I try not to think of my study.

My day off is over and when I go to bed, I am thinking, that the day has flashed past and the next week will bring new problems and their solutions.

As you may guess Vladimir also has one day off and I want to tell you about his day off.

He likes Sundays very much and this is the only day which he can organize properly. He needn't hurry anywhere and he may go wherever he likes after his working the whole week.

On Sunday his mother wakes up him with a nice cup of coffee later than usual. While he reads morning newspapers his sister tidies the flat up complaining that she has to cope on her own. As soon as he gets up, he airs the room, makes his bed and does morning exercises. Then he has breakfast, clears away the dishes and washes up. Two more hours for getting ready with his homework and he is free.

Then he has some light supper and makes a couple of phone calls to arrange a meeting with his friends. After that he goes to sleep again.

When he wakes up, he meets his friends and they discuss their plans together. If the weather is fine he prefers to be out of town just to enjoy the beautiful view of the countryside: in autumn he likes to pick up mushrooms and berries, in winter to ski.

In the evening they usually go to the clubs. As they are short of money they treat themselves to some tea and coffee. Vladimir doesn't dance well, when everybody dances, he sits and looks miserable, but he goes there regularly. I advise him to take some dancing lessons.

Sometimes he is tired of bars, noisy companies and sleepless nights. If it happens, he prefers to be in, watching TV, listening to music, reading books or just speaking over the phone or playing computer games.

In the evening all the members of his family get together. They have supper, make plans for tomorrow, and argue about the latest events at home and abroad. Sometimes they receive guests at their place.

He enjoys his days off very much. He wished he had a week-end. But may be after graduating from the University he will be lucky to have it.
