A theoretical analysis of addictive behavior formation is presented. Reduced ability to verbalize and to regulate affective states, lacking capacity to take care of oneself and to maintain self-esteem are considered as psychological roots of the addictive behavior. The leading role in the development of child's affect regulation is assigned to its mother (or another caregiving figure). The authors propose a hypothesis that links attachment relationships with the genesis of addictive behavior and the processes of addicts' successful treatment and rehabilitation. It is supposed that mother's insecure attachment type can be a risk factor of addictive behavior disorder of her child and plays negative role in addict's post-treatment rehabilitation.

Key words: addictive behavior, drug addiction, attachment, secure and insecure attachment, traumatisation.
