International activities

International activities of Vladimir State University are aimed at the development of partnership with foreign countries those of Commonwealth of Independent States and sisters-cities of Vladimir (Canterbury, Kent, and Bloomington Normal, Illinois, the USA). It includes teaching foreign students, trainees, post-graduates, and doctoral students.

University cooperates with more than 20 universities from 15 countries including the USA, China, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Czech Republic, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, the Ukraine, etc.

Many research assistants and students have yearly reciprocal mobility. Research assistants and scholars of the University have publications in foreign collection of articles, they take part in international conferences, workshops, and symposia. More than 15 international conferences are annually held at the University.

The University also cooperates with International Foundations, bodies, and such programs as German Service Academic Exchange (DAAD), IGIP, SIFE, British council, IREX, EU Representation in Moscow, Tempus - Ticis, Intas programs, etc.

As for international projects the University implements more than 10 international projects. Some joint projects are carried out under support of international organizations. International program SIFE is designed for students studying fundamentals of free enterprise. European Center of Microelectronic design has been set up due to the participation of the university in EUROCHIP and Europractice programs.

Main areas of international cooperation are:

Teaching foreign students (Bachelor and Master Degree Courses, Post-Graduate and Doctorate Degree Courses in all majors of the University);

Mutual exchange of students, post-graduates, faculty members, and research assistants;

Participation in international scientific conferences abroad;

Holding international scientific conferences at Vladimir State University.

Study abroad at Leicester University

Home and Away: students particularly those from the USA and Japan, are often able to spend up to one year as part of the course they are taking at university or college. At Leicester we offer a study abroad programme through which most of the universitys courses are available. The credits you gain from the course you select are transferred to your home institution.

European exchanges: we have a number of exchange agreements with other European universities under ERASMUS (European Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students) / SOCRATES arrangements.

Exciting opportunities: ERASMUS / SOCRATES schemes provide students with the exciting possibility of spending a term or more in a European university which has established an official relationship with a department at Leicester. Language training is generally given, and supplementary grants may be available to meet travel costs and living expenses. The academic work undertaken during the exchange contributes towards your course of study at Leicester.

Growing links: there are currently 34 ERASMUS / SOCRATES links with universities in the European Union. The number of contacts is growing and countries outside the Union, such as Norway and Iceland also participate.

Eastern Europe: there is TEMPUS the Trans-European Mobility Scheme for University Studies which aims to establish links between EU East European universities.

International students

International students come to study at University of Northumbria at Newcastle either on their own initiative or through a wide variety of exchange schemes such as those funded by the European Commissions ERASMUS LINGUA and TEMPUS programs. The European Officer in the International office works with departments to promote the European dimension of our courses and to advice staff and students about the opportunities available. Staff makes applications to the European Commission for funding which will help to improve our courses and research.

We also invite applications for general English language courses from international students. English study skills programs and English for special purposes such as Business English are designed to meet the specific English language needs of foreign companies, professors and personnel.

Our range of residential Spring and Summer schools offer further intensive English language and culture programs in March, April, July and August ensuring that the language needs of international students can be satisfied throughout the year. We have developed links with a number of North American, Australian and East Asian colleges and universities and welcome group of students in Fall, Spring and Summer. Exchanges of teaching staff regularly occur and British students have the opportunity of making contact with our partner colleges and universities.

Summer College

The University of Teesside believes that everyone who can benefit from higher education should have the opportunity to do so. The Summer College is a bridge to that opportunity. It aims to prepare people for entry into higher education by offering a program of shot courses (modules) at the University Teesside during July, August and September.

The Summer College is for people who live in the local area and:

- wish to study a University course leading to a degree or HND;

- already have qualifications but want to improve their skills or knowledge before embarking on a course;

- want to return to study after a break;

- have special needs, such as dyslexia and want to be confident about embarking upon a University course.

A wide selection of modules is available, including Mathematics and Numeracy Workshops, Presentation and Communication Skills, Study Skills of Preparing a Project and further studies in subjects such as Chemistry and Physics. The Summer College is supported by the Higher Education Funding Council for England so courses are free. Summer College students may use University facilities such as the library and subject to availability some Students Union and sports facilities.

Students take a minimum of two modules and depend on the choice of modules. A programme of study takes from two weeks to several weeks to complete. At the end of the Summer College you are given a record of achievement to take into higher education.
