"BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE" What is the weather today? It's very important. We are going for a vacation along the river to the Bay of Joy on a ship named "Ivan Susanin". How splendid! There is a wonderful forest there. And strawberry fields among green hills! And is there a beach? Gentlemen, don't forget your swim trunks! Be careful! The water is still cold and the weather is changeable. It's breezy on the ship. Take some warm clothes and umbrellas with you. It might rain! ! ? . . ! ! ! ? , ! ! , . . . !

There's no bad weather, there are bad clothes! I'll take only necessities: a striped swimming suit, a gray raincoat, a deep purple evening dress, an orange robe, lace underwear, a pink night-gown, a lilac sweater, velvet pants, blue jeans and a leather belt, a checked skirt, a polka-dot blouse, black stockings, yellow socks, transparent tights, white gloves, a scarlet hat and a green jacket; and footwear as well: fancy shoes, suede brown boots, light beige sneakers, golden sandals, multicolored slippers, and some packages with food. No objections, sweetheart. Guys! Let's organize a picnic! I hate canned food! For myself, I'll set up one easy day without cooking! Whatever you say, honey! I hope, there'll be no storm. I'm a bad sailor. What a divine ship! Snow-white! Three whole decks! It's gorgeous! If I had the chance, I'd talk to the captain: I can't swim! If I were you, I wouldn't worry. There are life-savers, life-belts and life boats. Good advice is beyond price! Do we have private cabins? No doubt! There are also a swimming pool and a solarium. And can we send a radiogram to our relatives? Are we pushing off already? Look out of the porthole. What muddy water! Nevertheless, they drink this water. I read, there were the times when the water in the Moscow-river was crystal pure and even good fish swam in it. And now the river is totally covered with oil. Plants and factories pour their industrial waste and dirt into the river. He , ! : , , - , , , , , , , , , , , , , ; : , , - , , . , . ! ! ! . , ! , . ( ). ! ! ! ! , : ! . , . ! ? ! . ? ()? . Do you see the smoke? It's from their pipes and stacks. They've polluted and poisoned the whole atmosphere! I heard that there's a nuclear reactor not far from here! They say, the explosion in Chernobyl was more powerful than that of a nuclear bomb. We can't allow such a tragedy to occur again. One can't forgive the irresponsibility, the carelessness and the cruelty of those responsible. Innocent children have been dying from the radiation. Nature is being destroyed. All this is very sad. I feel my spirits sagging. Cheer up! After rain comes fair weather! Soon we'll come to a meadow, make a camp-fire and sing a song! ? . ! , ! , . . , . . . . , . ! ! , !

When the world in which you're living Gets a bit too much to bear, And you need someone to lean on, When you look there's no one there. : You're gonna find me, hey, out in the country! Where the air is good, And the day is fine, And a pretty girl Has a hand in mine, And the silver stream Is a poor man's wine. In the country, in the country! , , , - , , . ! , , , , . , !

LIVE AND LEARN! What a gloomy, gray morning! And my mood is blue. Listen to the strange dream I had. I'm lying in bed, and suddenly the door opens with a nasty creak... A woman comes in... in white like a ghost... What a nightmare! You scared me to death! (Knocking at the door. A maid in white apron comes in.) Excuse me, are you leaving today? My main request is: return your bedding before 12 o'clock. That's the check out time. Certainly, without fail. Your dream was prophetic. My! I should have known better! Our stay in Moscow is coming to an end. What a nuisance! Don't be cranky! It's impossible to turn the clock back! The telephone is ringing! I'll get it! Hello, is that you Sydney? Holly Wood speaking. We are going to have a farewell stroll along Red Square and the Arbat. Would you, boys, mind to join us? With great pleasure! Is 9.30 O.K.? (Singing:) Half past nine will suit us fine! (At Red Square) Oh, Holly, you are in red! A lady in red at Red Square! (Singing like Chris de Burgh): I hardly know this lady by my side, I never will forget the way you look tonight! You 're amazing! You better have a look at St. Basil's Cathedral! It takes my breath away! The church was built during the time of tsar Ivan the Terrible, after the bloody battle with the Tatars, when Russian soldiers returned with glorious victory from the battlefield. the church is Pokrovsky Cathedral. The Cathedral is striking because of the originality of its architecture and the richness of its colors. Its creators, Barma and Postnik, were true masters. Ivan the Terrible ordered them blinded so they couldn't create anything more beautiful than this Cathedral. Well, live and learn. We've got some time left. We could stop by GUM to buy some gifts and souvenirs for home. (They go into a big multistoried department store.) Heavens! How crowded it's here! One could get lost in such a mess! (Announcement:) If you lose each other in our department store, meet in the center of GUM by the fountain! (AttheArbat) It's my first time here. And I've been to the Arbat before. It has changed so much! Is it better or worse? It's hard to say. I liked the old one better. Now it looks like a fair -matryoshkas, Easter eggs, laquer boxes in Khokhloma and Palekh style, Zhostovsky trays, dishes like Gzel. Every person has every right to express his own opinion. I must say, I like it here! It's fun, many people, street artists and musicians! Let's take pictures of ourselves as a remembrance. It would be advisable to have a bite to eat. Let's drop into this small restaurant! How sad is it to part! I'd like to propose a toast to you all. These days in Moscow I'll remember forever. I've met many wonderful friends here. I'm grateful to everyone one of you for your kindness, warmth, attention, for your open hearts. I've sincerely become attached to you all. And I'll miss you all very much. I'm looking forward to seeing you all again one day. Cheers! Good luck to you all! To you! To our friendship! . . , , . , , . , ! . , . ( .) ! ! ! (:) , , !
