Design and Technology of Electronic Facilities

The field is Design and Technology of Radio Electronic Facilities.

Students majoring in the field receive thorough training and after graduation from the program are able to work at all stages of developing and operating the (radio)electronic equipment, e.g., at the stages of design, manufacture, tuning, repair, and maintenance of devices during its operation.

Students have broad options in the following areas of specialization:

- computer-aided design of electronic facilities;

- radio engineering and telecommunications devices;

- household and medical electronic facilities;

- microwave (micro)electronics and engineering.

Within the framework of this direction of training the following fields are offered: microelectronics and semiconductor devices, industrial electronics, and electronic devices.

Students who choose the microelectronics and semiconductor devices field are offered the following areas of specialization:

- microprocessors and their application in technology;

- computer technologies;

- sensor electronics and guarding systems;

- up-to-date household and medical electronics.

Graduates from this program could gain employment in the following fields: application of electronic devices to computer technology, measuring systems, space and fibre optical communication, house hold and medical electronics. Students are also given thorough training in economics which provides them with an opportunity to earn a degree in economics as well.

Students majoring in the field of industrial electronics are trained to pursue a career in design, tuning, and operation of a wide range of electronic devices, from digital electronics circuit, computer technology, and household electronics to power devices of electric power engineering, and electric drive for industry.

Students are trained in two areas of specialization: transducer technology (power electronics) and business electronics. Students who have chosen the field of electronic devices and equipment are given extensive training leading to research and practical work aimed for developing and operating all types of electronic devices (vacuum, plasma, semiconductor, and quantum ones) and equipment (from microwave furnaces to computers). Students are offered specialization in the following areas:

- electronic devices;

- medical electronic devices;

- laser diagnostics.

Engineering Physics

The field of study is physical electronics. Graduates from the program are involved in development, application and operation of the most up-to-date types of electronic devices on the basis of nanoelectronics technology (the elements sizes are by an order of magnitude less than in conventional microelectronics. Training is provided in research laboratories of the Institute of Semiconductor Physics of the Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences on the basis of equipment and facilities and in accordance with the curricula corresponding to these of European universities. Students are offered the following areas of specialization:

- nanoelectronic and microelectronic devices;

- superconducting electronics and medical diagnostics;

- optoelectronics for communication and computers;

- sensor electronics and systems of medical and ecological monitoring.

Optotechnology

Students are given fundamental theoretical training and practical skills in working with lasers, fibreoptics, and holographic methods of processing, transmission, storing, and displaying information.

The areas of specialization are as follows:

- laser measuring systems;

- optotechnology;

- laser and optical technology in medicine;

- optical information technologies;

- physics and optical communication technology.

Training is provided at the research institutes of Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences, Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Medical Science, and Siberian Research Institute of Optical Systems.

The major departments of the Faculty are the Department of Radioreceiving and Radio transmitting Devices; the Department of Theoretic Fundamentals of Radio Engineering; The Department of Design and Technology of Radioelectronic Aids; The Department of Semi conductor Devices and Microelectronics; The Department of Industrial Electronics; The Department of Electronic Devices; The Department of Optical Information Technologies.

The staff of the Faculty are more than 150 teachers and professors who conduct active research in the field of radio engineering, electronics and physics. 17 staff members hold D.Sc.degrees and more than 100 of them are Candidates of Science.

The Faculty offers graduate and postdoctoral programs leading to M.Sc., Cand.Sc., and D.Sc. in Engineering.

The graduates are given fundamental training in physics, mathematies, radio engineering, and electronics. They master the skills to work with up-to-date research and technological equipment.

Training is provided on the basis on the newest information and computer techologies.
