Last Saturday James and his dad saw a big, red and black train in the window of the toy shop. James thought it was the best train in the world. On Monday James went to the shops with his Mum. First, they went to the pet shop to buy food for James rabbit. Then they went to the toy shop. James looked in the window but the train wasnt there. Oh, no! he said.

On Wednesday it was James tenth birthday. In the morning he went to school. His teacher, Mrs Murray, said Happy Birthday, James!, but his friends didnt. In the playground they didnt play catch and throw with him. James friends sat under the tree and talked quietly. Whats the matter?, he thought. James kicked a rock because he was sad.

After school James walked home. He opened the door. It was very quiet. Then, all his school friends jumped out from behind the sofa. Happy birthday, James! they shouted and laughed. His mum brought a beautiful birthday cake and put it on the table. Then, James saw a big box inside a lot of coloured paper. This is for you, said James dad. James quickly opened the box.
