A JEWELLER'S SHOP

Customer: I'm trying to find a Christmas present for my wife.

Assistant: Yes, sir. What exactly are you looking for?

Customer: I'm not sure, really. Perhaps you can help me.

Assistant: Right... I'll show you some bracelets.

Customer: No, I bought a bracelet for our wedding anniversary.

Assistant: Maybe a ring, then. These rings are made of gold.

Customer: Yes... I like that one. What's the stone?

Assistant: It's a diamond, sir... and it's only £ 2000!

Customer: Ah... well, perhaps you could show me some earrings, then.

AT THE READY-MADE CLOTHES DEPARTMENT

Shop-assistant: What can I do for you?

Customer: I'm looking for a skirt. I'd like something in green.

Shop-assistant: What size are you?

Customer: I'm not sure but I think... 14.

Shop-assistant: Here is an excellent skirt in green silk. Will you try it on?

Customer: Yes. Where is the fitting-room?

Shop-assistant: Come this way.

(Some minutes later)
Customer: How does it look?

Shop-assistant: It looks great. It's exactly your size.
Customer: How much is it?

Shop-assistant: It's only 15 dollars.

IN A TOY SHOP

Customer: Good morning. Perhaps you can advise me...

Assistant: Yes, madam.

Customer: I'm looking for a toy... for my nephew

Assistant: Oh, yes... how old is he?

Customer: He'll be nine years old on Saturday.

Assistant: Skateboards are still very popular.

Customer: Hmm, I don't want him to hurt himself.

Assistant: What about a drum set?

Customer: I don't think so. His father will be angry if I buy him one of those. Have you got anything educational? You see, he's a very intelligent boy.

Assistant: I've got the perfect thing! A do-it-yourself computer kit.

Fairs and Exhibitions

Every year a lot of international, national and specialized exhibitions and fairs are held in different countries of the world. The number of countries and companies who take part in them is growing from year to year and the scope of fairs and exhibitions is becoming larger.

The display during these exhibitions includes a wide range of exhibits which show the latest achievements in different fields of industry, science and agriculture of many countries.

Usually fairs and exhibitions are crowded with visitors, who show much interest in the exhibits on display.

At international and national exhibitions commercial centers are established where participants can negotiate the sale and the purchase of different goods.

Every exhibition is an eye-opening experience and also a method to advertise products. Fairs and exhibitions are usually held under various mottoes: people and progress, peace and progress through economic cooperation and so on.

Conversation at a Trade Fair

M: Good morning. I'm Martin Ross of International Express.

B: Morning, James.

M: We're planning to start up a new business and we're looking for the suppliers of the equipment. Raising interest of our customers promises good volume of business. We actually expert a keen demand on your products.

- Our exhibits give an excellent idea of our manufacturing. The choice is rather wide. Here are some leaflets. Our prices are often lower than those of world market. Our products have a competitive position for their highest quality and long warranty terms.

- Could I speak to someone and discuss the questions concerning an order?

- I suppose you should talk to Mr. Tomlin. He's going to be at the fair tomorrow.

- Do you provide personnel training?

- Well, as a rule, we actually do that. But I can't tell you for sure. I believe you'd better meet Mr. Tomlin to clear up all the particulars.

- Right. Here is my visiting card.
