Teaching staff and personnel

During annual attestation TS and personnel confirm their level through passing the exanimation.

The exam is taken according to the Universal criteria of complex assessment of language proficiency on the materials of Linguistic complex (Part 3 - Materials of combined exam). Time limit of exam for teaching staff and personnel is determined in 30 minutes, for theory - 15 minutes, for practice - 15 minutes (table 4) where there are given tasks on all types of speech activity (TSA), norms of time: preparation-11 minutes and for answer 4 minutes. Difference in norms of time and number of tasks for learners, TS and personnel as well as assessment criteria of language proficiencyare presented in table 3.

Examination Learner passes the test according to the level of training TS and Personnel passes the placement test consisting of questions in five levels

The examenee takes an exam on the corresponding level of training TS and personnel takes an exam in accordance with the result of placement test

The first block is theoretica l which examinee passes on computer. The base of tests includes 600 questions, which is divided into 24 variants. In each variant there are 25 test questions. The regulation is 15 minutes. The test includes lexical and grammar material on five levels (5 questions from each level). This block determines the theoretical knowledge of examinee; he gets a letter grade (A, B, C, D, F). Further, according to the results of computer testing, he passes the 2nd block of unified linguistic test (ULT).

All exam materials are divided into two blocks: a) tasks which help to determine the depth of the knowledge of theoretical material; b) tasks which help to determine practical knowledge, skills and ability. Total mark T can be represented in general as:

T = X P

where X an absolute mark of theoretical knowledge on one of the five levels. It is shown in grades (A, B, C, D, F).

P a relative characteristics of practical language proficiency which is shown in marks (from 0 to 100 %).

The second block is practical: it determines the level of language proficiency in the form of oral examination. Total number of exam cards is 30 (a shortened version of exam cards for learners from the 3rd part of linguistic complex p.118-148), the first card is given as an example.

On the result of oral exam the upper and lower thresholds of language proficiency level are defined.

The upper threshold is 19% - 20% for the 1st level, 39% - 40% for the 2nd level, 59% - 60% for the 3rd level, 79% - 80% for the 4th level. It allows the examinee to pass the next level exam.

The lower threshold for the 2nd level is 21% - 29%; 41% - 49% for the 3rd level; 61% - 69% for the 4th level, 81% - 89% for the 5th level which means the examinee to retake the same level.

If the result of exam is 10 - 18% for the 1st level; 30 - 38% for the 2nd level; 50 - 58% for the 3rd level; 70 - 78% for the 4th level; 90 - 98% for the 5th level it means the examinee has confirmed his level of proficiency.
